Basic Invitation Etiquette:

  • When to Mail: Invitations should be mailed at least six weeks prior to the event. A Save the Date card sent earlier (4 months or more) may help guests plan ahead.
  • Response Cards: the respond-by dates should be at least 2 weeks prior to the wedding, but the earlier the better.
  • No punctuation: Commas should be use to separate day/date, city/state. Periods should only be used the end of Mr., Mrs.
  • No abbreviations: Spell out Reverend, Doctor, Day, Date and Time (exceptions are Mr., Mrs., jr.)
  • Only proper nouns are capitalized: People, Places, State, Day, Month, (exception is the year line "Two thousand" )

Basic Addressing Guidelines:

  • Names should be completely spelled out: Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon Jones
  • Children under 18: Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon Edwards Jones, Allison and Jason
  • No Abbreviations: Streets and States should be spelled out
